I’m a citizen and very upset about all the potholes in fairhaven.

Notified About

  • Ashmun St & Lock St New Haven, CT, 06511, USA - Downtown

This is an incredibly dangerous intersection for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists. It is a high-volume intersection because drivers from Dixwell and Newhallville uses this route to get downtown. There is a stop sign for drivers on Lock St but no other safety features. Therefore, there is absolutely NO safe way for pedestrians to cross: No crosswalk, no 3-way stop, no traffic light. Drivers frequently turn without checking for pedestrians. A cyclist was hit recently and many pedestrians avoid this intersection. It’s a matter of time before a fatal accident happens.

I would like to request a new Pedestrian crossing sign and a painted (ideally raised) crosswalk. It would also help if this was a 3-way Stop to reduce speeds. Thank you for your consideration.

  • Dwight St & Edgewood Ave New Haven, CT, 06511, USA - Dwight

I am re-posting this issue because the signal has been fixed twice now, but is once again broken, so this ticket is specifically for the third iteration of it breaking. This is the same signal as others have reported at the intersection of Edgewood Avenue and Dwight.

Some additional information is also that this signal is maintained by city-hired contractors. It was fixed on 2/5/24 (and once more before then), but both times it has been fixed, the signal breaks again almost immediately after. The contractors must be informed the entire unit needs to be replaced, not simply reset.

This broken light is dangerous for a few reasons, and has now caused about 7-8 accidents, a few of which have been quite severe, and all of which have resulted in damage to the involved vehicles.

    1. The light flashes yellow on Edgewood but red on Dwight, every time it breaks. There's two issues with this. One is that not everyone knows/heeds the flashing red (which means STOP), and they just blow through it. Yellow does not mean stop at all (it just means caution), so they hit the person on the yellow (Edgewood) side.

    2. This intersection has bad visibility, hence why the signal is there in the first place. In at least one instance, even when the person on the red side stopped, and the person on yellow slowed down, they cannot see one another easily. So, if the person on the red side moves, and yellow doesn't see them, it results in a crash.

Not only is this pretty dangerous, it's also resulting in a TON of honking every time there is nearly an accident, which disturbs everyone.

  • 264-316 Townsend Ave New Haven, CT, 06512, USA - East Shore
The guard rail is destroyed and we have to look at this every day - please fix this. Something needs to be done about the speeding cars. Every month there are several accidents.
  • 200 Wallace St New Haven, CT, 06511, USA - Mill River
Resident reports that tree is coming out on sidewalk & it's badly damaged. Please inspect.
  • 133-155 Concord St New Haven, CT, 06512, USA - East Shore
The city tree root continues to grow lifting the sidewalk. It has caused several people to trip and is a huge safety risk. Each year at Halloween, we must place saw horses over it to try and prevent candy goers from falling. Unfortunately it doesn't always work, cry's and tears follow. We have had candidates for mayor tell us they will definitely get that fixed. And we are still waiting.
  • Whalley Ave & Ella T Grasso Blvd New Haven, Connecticut, 06511 - Edgewood
Another horrific accident just occured at Whalley and Ella Grasso. It was so bad that our building shook. The amount of accidents that happen at this deadly intersection is unreal, it is on average once a week. Some have been deadly, people have been killed. Twice in the last few years drivers have run the red light, crashed through a stone wall, through an iron fence, and into the PARKED CARS in our parking lot- which is about 30 feet from our condo! A few weeks ago, the traffic light was knocked out because of an accident, and during the two weeks it took to fix, there were MORE accidents! We need raised crosswalks at this intersection, better law enforcement (a lot of accidents caused by idiots trying to beat the red light) and get rid of the little island on Ella Grasso that divides the road- people can't see it at night! Lets get together and DO something about this!
  • 138-298 Colony Rd New Haven, CT, 06511, USA - Beaver Hills
This corner fence at this property located on corner of Colony Rd and Dyer St. is hazardous to drivers when approaching this intersection from Colony Rd or from Dyer St. It creates a blind spot for drivers, bikers and pedestrians. The height of the fence blocks the sight line. And, the fact that it extends out to the sidewalk blocks a clear view of oncoming traffic and pedestrians rounding the corner. It is also a security issue for pedestrians. Please have the appropriate city department check out this fence before an accident occurs. Also, determine if this fence violates city codes for fences.
  • 66 1st St New Haven, CT, 06519, USA - City Point
An oldie but goodie! Green & white BMW with VT marker FRT 486. Registered in VT--despite fact that owner has resided in first floor apt of 80 First St for about 4 years. I reported this almost a year ago: https://seeclickfix.com/issues/5163818-illegal-car-3-first-st-between-greenwich-howard BUT who cares? I'm sure city employees have much more important things to do than collect the revenue THAT PAYS FOR YOUR SALARIES!!!!
  • 66 1st St New Haven, CT, 06519, USA - City Point
Neighbors report corruption in Transportation, Traffic & Parking Dept. They say Parking Enforcement officer is friends with owner of illegal vehicles on First St—which is why problem never gets fixed. Is this not true? >>THEN PROVE IT—and get rid of these vehicles: https://seeclickfix.com/issues/6789012 AND https://seeclickfix.com/issues/6789042 AND https://seeclickfix.com/issues/6789084 ***And I don’t want to hear that “illegal registrations are not dealt with by TT&P Dept”. If that’s so, then act like an actual taxpayer-paid ‘public servant’ and find out who IS responsible for taking care of this problem and pressure THEM to take care of this until the problem is fixed! (I hope the next mayor completely ‘clears the deck’ and hires new staff when he takes office…)
  • New Haven Ct 06511 United States - Edgewood

THREE more car crashes *this* week alone (9/5/2020- 9/10/2020). The blinking yellow light (Ellsworth) + blinking red light (Edgewood) are ineffective & dangerous. The newish yellow posted signs of "Cross traffic does not stop" are *not* working, & we & the neighbors on this block continue to be concerned & frustrated that these crashes occur again & again & again. As this intersection is also a CTTransit spot with active riders, this makes it unsafe for pedestrians getting on/off buses.

Reporting the crashes at this same intersection time & again for years to our alder & the Dept. of Transportation, Traffic, & Safety has led to no meaningful change or increased safety. The car crashes continue. The screeching of tires from near misses is a daily sound. The traffic signals at this intersection cause confusion & danger so no pedestrian is safe here.

  • Edgewood Ave & Winthrop Ave New Haven, Connecticut, 06511 - Edgewood
Hi! I live on Edgewood Avenue, right at the intersection where the new traffic light has been installed to (I assume) direct traffic at the Edgewood/Winthrop intersection. I am writing because I've noticed that now that the traffic light is there (even though it is clearly off) cars crossing this intersection (which is a complicated one) do not seem to understand who has right of way. I just watched this "stand off": two cars coming down Edgewood, towards downtown, stopped (even though they have, and always have had, right of way) at the intersection because a big truck went through the stop sign on Winthrop (going towards Chapel) just as another car drove through the stop sign going the opposite way on Winthrop. This has always been a dangerous intersection, mostly because cars drive very quickly down Edgewood, but now it's just confusing, and there is honking/near-accidents every day. Is there something the city can do to make it clear who has right of way here? it's just stressful to watch, and even more stressful to drive. Thanks!
  • 68 Mechanic St New Haven, CT, 06511, USA - East Rock
68 Mechanic St is trying to be rented out again and I just want to make sure it is still not condemned. The landlord of that building threatened a reporter with a box cutter when she tried to ask him questions. I just want to make sure he is not doing anything illegal and that everyone who rents that building will be safe.
